Lake Koorkoordine is about 7 kilometres north of the town of Southern Cross.

The name comes from the Aboriginal words Koorkoor, meaning 'meat' and dine, meaning 'place of'.

The lake is accessed via the Bullfinch Road and Turkey Hill Road and then by a track leading in to the lake.

There are a number of tracks to explore and plenty of nice spots where you can stop overnight. There are no facilities at the lake so anyone wishing to stay overnight needs to be fully self sufficient.

Nearby is the Southern Cross golf club but as you might expect in this area, there aren't exactly any grassed fairways.

The lake can be quite picturesque and is a popular spot for landscape photographers.

Near a flat granite outcrop by the lake is one of Charles Cooke Hunt's wells. The well was dug in 1865 and was a popular stopping place for explorers including Alexander Forrest and later for prospectors such as Risley and Toomey who discovered gold in the area.

The well fell into disrepair but was renovated and restored in 1984.

Today there is a small fence around the well to help preserve it.
